Is residential property a good investment?

There’s an ongoing debate about whether residential property can be considered an investment asset, and whether it is a good investment if it can be.

One thing I’ve learnt over the years is that a lot of the time different people can look at the same situation and see it differently. I guess it’s because we’re different. Perspective matters and I think it is wise to always consider as many sides of an argument as possible before formulating your own perspective, and to be prepared to adjust it as better information comes to light.

This is one of those cases where experts have different views on the matter. I challenge you to consider the different arguments and see if you can formulate your own view on the matter. I’m interested to hear what you think so please do comment. The arguments can be found in the articles whose links are below. The articles were all obtained from moneyweb, and I have conveniently listed them in chronological order for you.

Enjoy!

  1. I think it is a really interesting debate that we should have: is your own home an asset? Does your own home generate an income? Does the answer depend on the size of the home?

    What do you think?
